NASCAR's Kurt Busch teams with Las Vegas firm to train nation's waterworks workforce

LAS VEGAS, March 2, 2006 -- The Las Vegas Valley Water District and Water Works Industry Solutions join NASCAR champion and former waterworks employee Kurt Busch for lunch and a news briefing on March 9 at 12:30 p.m. at the NASCAR Cafe in Las Vegas to announce critical, exciting and new information about the waterworks industry.

In addition to meeting Busch, he'll show how manufacturers; unions and trades; wholesalers and distributors; construction companies; water districts; municipalities; training facilities; and, engineering firms can save money in avoided repairs and annual off-site training costs, as well as the reduction of on-site injuries.

Busch, who was the 2004 NASCAR Nextel Cup champion in his #2 Miller Lite Dodge, is in town for the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 12.

Better training saves water
More than 700 water mains break each day, wasting 6.8 billion gallons of water and $98 million in direct costs associated with repairs. Many of these breaks are caused by inadequate training of today's waterworks workforce and could be avoided with the proper training.

Busch is working with Water Works Industry Solutions (WWIS), which has found a vast number of people employed in the waterworks industry could not name a part, its purpose or the type of installation they were performing.

In coordination with some of the industry's leading experts, WWIS developed an ambitious 36-part DVD series, called The Basics that provides companies with ways to save money through the right training and latest technology. Each lesson features Kurt Busch and is performed by experienced veterans in the waterworks industry containing manufacturing approved installations.
